NEET 2026 is Over — What Next? Complete Guide for Mulund Students

NEET UG 2026 is over.

After months of preparation, sleepless nights, and sacrifices - you walked into the exam hall on May 3rd and gave it your best shot. That takes courage, and you should be proud of yourself regardless of how the paper went.

But now comes the real question every NEET student and parent in Mulund is asking - what next?

This guide covers everything you need to know about what happens after NEET 2026 - the result date, counselling process, and most importantly, what to do based on your score.

NEET 2026 Result - When Will It Come?

The NEET UG 2026 exam was conducted on May 3, 2026 by NTA (National Testing Agency) in offline pen-and-paper mode from 2 PM to 5 PM. Based on previous years' trends, the NEET 2026 result is expected to be declared in the second week of June 2026 - roughly 4 to 6 weeks after the exam.

You can check your result on the official NTA website: neet.nta.nic.in

To download your scorecard you will need:

  • Your NEET 2026 application number
  • Your date of birth

Your scorecard will show your marks obtained, All India Rank (AIR), category rank, and qualifying status. Save multiple copies as soon as it is released - you will need it throughout the counselling process.

NEET 2026 Answer Key - Check Your Expected Score Now

While the official NEET 2026 result is awaited, NTA is expected to release the provisional answer key shortly. Once it is out — here is how to use it:

  • Download the answer key from neet.nta.nic.in
  • Match your responses from memory or from the OMR response sheet
  • Calculate your expected score: +4 for correct, -1 for incorrect
  • Use this expected score to estimate your All India Rank and check which colleges you may be eligible for

This gives you a head start in researching colleges and planning your next steps before the official result.

NEET 2026 Counselling - How Does It Work?

Once results are declared, the counselling process begins. Here is how it works:

All India Quota (AIQ) -15% of seats This counselling is conducted centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for MBBS and BDS seats in government medical colleges across India, all AIIMS campuses, JIPMER, deemed universities, and central universities.

State Quota - 85% of seats For Maharashtra students in Mulund and Mumbai, the 85% state quota counselling is conducted by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell separately. This covers government and private medical colleges in Maharashtra.

Important: You can apply for both AIQ and state quota counselling. However, if you get a seat in both, you must surrender one. Keep your documents ready well in advance - Class 10 and 12 marksheets, NEET scorecard, category certificate if applicable, passport size photos, and ID proof.

What Score Do You Need? Expected NEET 2026 Cutoff

Here are the expected qualifying percentile cutoffs for NEET 2026 based on previous years' trends:

  • General Category: 50th Percentile - approximately 140 to 150 marks out of 720
  • OBC / SC / ST: 40th Percentile - approximately 120 to 130 marks out of 720
  • PwD (General): 45th Percentile

For a government MBBS seat in Maharashtra, students from Mulund typically need scores in the range of 550 to 620+depending on the college and category.

For private medical colleges in Maharashtra, scores in the range of 450 to 550 can fetch admissions in several colleges through state quota counselling.

What If You Didn't Score as Expected?

This is the most important section - and we want to be honest with you.

Not every NEET attempt goes the way we plan. That is completely okay. Here is what your options are:

Option 1 - Drop Year and Reappear for NEET 2027

A drop year is not failure - it is strategy. Many of India's top MBBS doctors cracked NEET in their second or third attempt. If your score was significantly below your target, a focused drop year with the right coaching can make all the difference.

At Newton's Academy in Mulund West, we offer NEET coaching specifically designed for drop year students - with a structured plan, stronger Biology coverage, and personal mentoring throughout the year.

Option 2 - Explore BAMS, BHMS, BDS, or BPharma

If your NEET score qualifies you for AYUSH courses like BAMS (Ayurveda), BHMS (Homeopathy), or BUMS (Unani) - these are respected medical courses with strong career paths. BDS and BPharma are also excellent options worth considering.

Option 3 - Wait for Result and Then Decide

If you are unsure about your score - wait for the official result and answer key before making any decision. Do not panic before you have actual numbers.
